There's no apparent correlation between price and weight, and all cost less than $4.50.
Chick-fil-A had the smallest sandwich at just over half the weight of KFC. KFC had the biggest sandwich by weight at 10.3oz (291g) followed by Popeyes at 8.6oz (245g). (I'm ignoring fiber here because these sandwiches contain little fiber.) If two sandwiches were to weigh the same and have the same water content, but one had more fat, then it would also have more calories. We weighed the sandwiches to approximate calories. Carbohydrate and protein contain 4 calories per gram, fat contains 9 calories per gram, and water contains 0 calories per gram, so weight differences would be a good indicator of calorie differences if each sandwich had the same proportions of fat and water. We decided to roll with it rather than going back to correct the order. McDonald's threw off our plans by giving us spicy sandwiches even though we ordered the regular. That means no spicy sandwiches (even though we like spicy) and no adding jalapenos or extra sauce or whatever. We chose the standard chicken sandwich because we wanted to evaluate the core product. We also rated the fries and nuggets/tenders. We started out very hungry and ended up very full. Starting at noon on Saturday, we drove from Davis to Popeyes and Wendy's in Dixon (15 minutes), then to Chick-fil-A in Vacaville (15 minutes), then to McDonald's in Dixon (15 minutes), and finally to KFC in Davis (15 minutes).
